About Degsy
Degsy is a 1981 Series III Land Rover in Marine blue. The engine is a four cylinder normally aspirated, 2 1/4 litre petrol. Land Rover's are not massively comfortable to drive since they have leaf springs at each corner. The seat only moves about 2 inches. The heater is duff and the windscreen mists up. Fuel consumption is poor and they are not fast, maximum speed 45mph. Why would have one?
They are great...that's why. Two tons of Solihull's finest. Put together by blokes with spanners for blokes with spanners to fix 'em. As the bumper sticker says" I can't go anywhere fast but I can go anywhere!" Landies have been round since 1948. They are the original off road vehicles. They normally run two wheel drive to the rear axle. The gearbox has four forward and one reverse, but then it has a lever to engage four wheel drive and another lever to engage the low ratio gears. It is rugged, built to last and fun to drive. The luxury of modern power assisted cars mean most folks cannot drive them. It is an art that modern cars have had engineered out of them.
